Kunqu Opera staged at UNESCO headquarters in Paris

Photo taken on November 17, 2009 shows a scene of Peony Pavilion, a well-known Chinese traditional Kunqu Opera, at the headquarters of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization(UNESCO) in Paris, capital of France. A performance staged by China's Suzhou Kunqu Opera Troupe debut at the headquarters of UNESCO on Tuesday night. Regarded as "the mother of all operas", Kunqu has a long history of over 500 years and is one of China's extant oldest dramatic forms. It was listed as one of the 19 inaugural "Masterpieces of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity" by UNESCO in 2001. (Xinhua/Zhang Yuwei)
