The romantic kung fu film 14 Blades will premiere on the Chinese mainland and in Taiwan on February 4, aiming to champion the Spring Festival box office, the production team announced Wednesday.
Written and directed by Daniel Lee (Black Mask) from Hong Kong and starring Zhao Wei (Painted Skin) and Donnie Yen (Ip Man), 14 Blades is set in the Ming Dynasty. The film tells an intriguing story of how the head of royal guardian Qing Long falls in love with an ordinary girl, Qiao Hua, while running for his life after being framed.
According to Gao Jun, general manager of Beijing New Film Association, 14 Blades has great box office potential during the Spring Festival season. Gao said that both Yen's action performances and the heart-clutching love story should appeal to a wide audience.
