With only their bare hands and sturdy legs, two brothers in their 50s are on their way to pulling their 80-year-old mother to Taiwan, 4,000 kilometers from their home in Lanxi county in the northeast province of Heilongjiang, on a makeshift three wheeled oversized mobile home.
Rocking on the triple-deck tricycle modeled after a tent, the mother was securely sandwiched on the second floor while her two sons labored to pull their self-made oversized rickshaw.
Wang Kai, the elder brother, said the trip was inspired by his late father's last wish of visiting the southern tip of China on a tricycle vehicle. To fulfill his wish and please their mother, the Wang brothers accepted a visiting invitation from across the Straits and redesigned the vehicle to house all three. They set off from Lanxi on September 1 and expect the trip to take four months.
The mother dines on the road on local snacks and food offered by passers-by. "Mother is happy," said Wang. "Cars often honk to cheer us on."
