No shoes, please for He Youping, a 50-year-old farmer from the village of Mace in Yicheng county, Shanxi Province who said he has gone barefoot since he was a child.

"I can walk in a field and even on crushed glass without injury," he said, breaking a beer bottle and treading on the shards to demonstrate to what was described as a "stunned" crowd of onlookers.

Iron-footed He said the last time he tried to wear shoes was 30 years ago when he went to meet his future bride for the first time.

"I put them on to see her," he said. "But took them off immediately on my way back home."
