Xingxingxia Passage is located at the southeast of Hami City, the border of Gansu and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Xingxingxia means "star gorge" – a beautiful name supposedly derived from ancient times, when travelers would rest up here in the mountains and look up to see one of the mountain peaks shining like a little star. Standing at the passage, you can really make out some old fortifications. It has long been regarded as the east gate of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region since ancient times.
