Wuyuan County in Jiangxi Province is reputed as the "most beautiful countryside in China" with at least 50 old villages. They are located along rivers with trees standing on the banks and farmers driving ducks toward the ponds, which create a typical Chinese countryside scene. In addition to the natural scenery, Wuyuan County is also where a large number of China's top scholars came from, including Zhu Xi, a Confucian master in the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279), Zang Tianyou, the country's first railway engineer, and thousands of other scholars who passed the civil imperial examinations in ancient China.
