Italy's island of Sardinia

Italy's island of Sardinia has launched a strategic tourism project in China aimed at increasing the appeal of the area.

Sardinia is beautiful and the second-largest island in the Mediterranean. Its wild coasts and turquoise waters attract thousands of tourists from all over the world each year.

"More and more Chinese tourists travel around the world and are attracted to new destinations. We would like to increase the number of those who visit our land. Many Chinese couples already choose Sardinia as the best location for their honeymoon," said Sardinian Councilor for Tourism Sebastiano Sannitu.

Natural beauties are the core assets of Sardinia's appeal but there is much more worth discovering on the island, according to Sannitu. "We are investing in so-called 'Active Tourism,'" he added.

Active Tourism has a low environmental impact and includes, historical site-seeing tours and sports such as windsurfing, trekking, biking and rock climbing.
